OUR BIRTH DOULAS:

Bethany Tilzey, CD(DONA)

I have been married for 9 years to my wonderful husband Dennis, who now knows more about birth than he ever wanted to! We have a 5 year old son, a 3 year old daughter, and recently (February 2008) had a home waterbirth with our 3rd child. Having had a hospital birth and two home births, I bring a wide variety of experiences to my doula work.  I don’t consider my doula work a job, rather as a calling; a passion. The women I assist are very important to me. I happily invest hours of time into preparing, communicating, teaching, meeting, and aiding in the births of each of my clients.

Dawn Bouchard, CD(DONA)
I spent 12 years in the military and am the proud wife of a retired Coast Guardsman.
I am the mother of two wonderful children, both born naturally, and the grandmother to three, twin grandsons and a granddaughter. I became passionate about birth after attending the birth of my granddaughter. I am certified with DONA International. While I have attended births at different hospitals and at homes I have done the majority of by births at Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.  I live in Roy and have a miliary ID card for easy access to the miliatary base. I am currently working on certification for ante-partum doula. An ante-partum doula is trained to provide special support to the woman in a high risk pregnancy.

Elizabeth Mathison, CD(DONA)

I first became passionate about birth while attending the labor and birth of a friend for her 6th child. I still remember the moment clearly when the baby was born and I found myself crying and clearly knowing that a childbirth career was a perfect fit for me. It took me a few years to get around to becoming a doula but now that I am, I love every minute of it. I am a proud Army wife, being married for over three years to a soldier who is the love of my life. I will be moving to the Fort Lewis area in May. I'm feel truly blessed to get to do what I love and assist so many amazing women in the process.

Emmy Marcelynas, AAHCC, CD(DONA)

I assisted with my first birth in 2004 and have been helping families achieve their ideal births ever since!

I had my first baby at home in June of 2005 after a wonderfully strong labor surrounded by my friends, family, and midwives. My own birth experience was so powerful that I couldn't resist assisting other families in their quest for the ultimate birth experience. Birthing a baby can be one of the most empowering experiences a woman and her family can have; it is a sacred and special event, and I will do my best to help you make it a loving memory as well.

Johannah Maxwell, CD(DONA)

I am mother of 2 boys ages 10 and 7. I have been happily married for 11 years. I have always had a passion for pregnancy, labor and delivery. After many years of helping family and friends answer the many questions of the unknown, and help them relax during labor, I made the choice to help others who may have the same questions and needs, but were unsure where to turn or where to find the answer. A pregnant friend suggested I become a doula.  I took my training at Bates Technical College and since then have helped a variety of women in different birth settings.

Melissa Calder

I decided to become a doula after the wonderful experience of having a doula at my own birth. I have always been facinated by pregnancy and childbirth and knew I could make a positive impact. I took my formal training at Bates Techinical College in 2007. Since then I have helped
with a wide variety of birth situations. As a mother of 3 expecting her 4th, I understand how important it is to feel the support and love a doula can offer.
